Difference between Secondary Education and Post Secondary Education

Secondary and post secondary education differs in system, focus and approach as well as their final goals. Secondary education is more known as high school which concentrates on teaching the students on the foundation of learning higher education. Students are taught to become better listeners and well-rounded people. When we talk about post-secondary education, it refers to the education after high school. It concentrates on teaching students to become critical thinkers in more specific and in-depth subjects.

Secondary education students follow rigid course recommendations and don’t have numerous options once they choose courses. With a few exceptions, post-secondary education allows students to review subjects, and choose what they really want. In a secondary school, instructors tend to be more accessible but should also behave as disciplinarians. In a post-secondary institution, instructors can be remote and expect students to be more responsible. Students have more freedom, but are more liable with their decisions. Some professors prefer actual activities or coursework in the classroom, or laboratory than giving assignments.

You will find fewer tests in post-secondary education. Some instructors might even replace tests with research papers. Post-secondary instructors have a tendency to assign more papers. Setting research papers which are greater than 10 pages is very common. Secondary instructors will punish non-attendance or incomplete homework projects. Instructors from post-secondary schools expect students to extend efforts or fail the program. The secondary education is actually a preparation for post secondary education, a more advance and focused education.
